AI assistants write in Markdown, a shorthand where **two stars** mean bold and ### means a heading. Paste that into Word or an email and the shorthand comes with it.

What it changes
- **Bold** and *italic* become real bold and italics, and stray stars disappear.
- # headings become real headings, which also build a contents page in Word, or bold lines if you turn headings off.
- Lists keep their numbering and nesting. Tables become real tables with borders, or rows of cells for a spreadsheet.
- Long dashes become commas or colons, and “Certainly! Here is…” openers and “I hope this helps” sign-offs go, if you leave those boxes ticked.
Questions
How do I copy from ChatGPT without the asterisks?

Why does my paste into Word have a gray background?

Does Slack get the formatting?
