Full prompt and why it works
Prompt
Write a reply to the recruiter message below. My answer is: {{my_answer}}. The reply is going straight to the recruiter, so it should sound like me: friendly, brief and clear about what I want.

The recruiter's message:
"""
{{recruiter_message}}
"""

What I want in my next role (pay floor, location or remote, type of work, timing): {{what_i_want}}
My current situation, only as much as I want to share: {{my_situation}}

Write:
1. The reply, in plain text with no headings or bullet points, signed {{my_name}}: 60 to 130 words if I am interested, and two or three sentences if I am declining. If I am interested, ask for the two or three facts I need before a call, such as the pay range, location rules and the hiring company's name if it was not given, and suggest times or ask for theirs. If I am not interested now, decline in one sentence and say what kind of role would interest me later. If I am not interested at all, thank them and close politely.
2. One line on anything in their message I should check before replying, such as a vague role or a request for personal details.

The tone should be warm and professional, not eager. For example, a way to ask about pay that works: "Before we talk, could you share the salary range for the role? It helps me make sure it's a good fit for both of us."

Do not share my current salary, my reasons for leaving or details about my employer unless my notes say to. Do not agree to send ID documents, bank details or money in a first reply; if the message asks for them, or promises high pay for little work, say in part 2 that it may be a scam. Do not invent anything about my experience.

If my answer is unclear, or I have not said what I want, write the interested version with a bracketed placeholder for my priorities and ask me one question to fill it in.

Variables

{{my_answer}}
Interested, not now, or not interested.
{{recruiter_message}}
The recruiter's message, copied in full.
{{what_i_want}}
Your pay floor, location or remote needs, the work you want and your timing.
{{my_situation}}
What you are happy to say about your current job, or "nothing".
{{my_name}}
Your name as you sign messages.

Why it works

  • What to make. One prompt covers all three answers, interested, not now and not interested, each with its own ending.
  • What to avoid. It keeps your current salary and reasons for leaving private, and treats requests for ID, bank details or money as a possible scam.
  • An example. A sample line shows how to ask for the pay range early without sounding demanding.

How to use it

  1. Press Fill in variables and type your details into each blank. What you type stays in this browser.
  2. Copy the filled prompt into the AI tool you already use, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, or open it in the Grader or the Prompt Tester here.
  3. Before you rely on it, try it on three or four real examples. The Prompt Tester runs them all at once and shows which ones go wrong.
